Berkeley Lab

Phase 1: Baselining current innovation

Our goal in this phase of the work is to understand how existing precision agricultural efforts perform in comparison to conventional agriculture.  Working with innovative growers across the country, Berkeley Lab scientists will

  • Compare existing precision urban agriculture efforts.
  • Conduct a full life cycle analysis of the costs to produce key crops
  • Monetize environmental and other benefits
  • Compare nutrient and micronutrient profiles of plants grown hydroponically, aeroponically, or aquaponically vs. conventional soil-based growing.
  • Compare toxins and heavy metal concentrations for plants grown hydroponically, aeroponically, or aquaponically vs. conventional soil-based growing.
