Phase 2: Optimization and Innovation

In this phase of the work we will be using science to better understand the optimum environmental conditions for plant growth in precision urban agriculture settings and how variations in specific parameters–lighting, temperature, humidity, nutrients–impact plant growth.  The goal is both understand better whether there are inputs that can be reduced further while still maintaining effective plant growth.

The second part of this phase will be focused looking at how technological innovations can support the cost-effective optimization of plant environments.  For example are there ways that technology can help reduce heating or cooling costs, enhance airflow, or reduce materials costs.
